What is the challenge we face?
God has called us to worship and serve Him in St. Peter's.  Over the centuries thousands of people have come here, we are thankful for our rich history.  As we stand on their shoulders, as we build on their achievements, we look to the future.
We welcome the challenges we face as a church situated at the heart of the city centre, to bring hope where there is despair, peace where there is fear, faith where there is doubt and the joy of the Lord to all we meet.
With over 4000 people living in our parish and thousands more working in the Westfield Centre, we look to God to resource, inspire, empower and equip us for our missionary task.

Why did we have a Gift Day in 2009?
It is good to remind ourselves about some of the reasons for the Community Development Project, formerly known as the Building Project.  Primarily, we believe that God wants us to be his servants to the community in and around the church in the city centre. So, this is work for God and should be entered into with enthusiasm, praise, energy and prayer. Two factors that have been prominent over the years are the need to provide for ease of access to everyone and in doing so meet the requirements of the Disability Act, and secondly to extend the hall facilities for use by the church and community.

What has been done so far?
Over the last few years some major pieces of work have been completed on our buildings, including:
•  Re-roofing the main church.
•  Completely replacing the lighting.
•  A new sound system.
•  Refurbishment of the flower vestry.
•  A new heating system.
•  New hall cupboards.
•  Upgrading the security system.
All of this has been achieved through prayer, hard work, dedication, generous giving and fundraising through grants.  St. Peter's has excelled in the grace of giving, just as Paul exhorted the church at Corinth, when he wrote in 2 Corinthians 8:7, 9: "See that you excel in this grace of giving… For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich."

So what's next?
Now is the time to proceed with more of the work and improvements to the access to the toilet facilities have long been awaited. This will mean rebuilding the toilets to fit in with the planned extension. In addition, access to the hall would be greatly improved by the provision of a lift.

At our Gift Day in September 2009 we raised some £25,000, and in addition, £15,000 had already been donated.  We have approximately £90,000 from the sale of a property some years ago, so we are getting nearer our target figure of around £200,000.

We continue to pray for God to release these additional funds, as he moves us to greater generosity, and as we apply for grants from organisations that support our work to be a community of faith, hope and love in the heart of the city.
In addition, in the last 3 months of 2010 we have received some wonderful help through ProHelp Business in the Community.  This is a national network providing free professional advice for initiatives beneffiting the local community; we have received £4000 of advice from an architect, quantity surveyor, structural engineer and accountant. This has enabled us to move forward with St. Peter's Centre, which we believe will be built this year!

What will be the impact?
The needs around St. Peter's are great, and we cannot help everyone, but we are inspired by Jesus, who was filled with compassion when he saw the poverty.

Vision Statement
St. Peter's Centre will complement and extend the Christian life and witness of St. Peter's Church by being a place where people of all ages and walks of life who live, work or visit in the city centre can find practical, emotional and spiritual support.

Mission Statement
As an integral part of our Christian faith St. Peter's Centre will utilise the prime location and community facilities of St. Peter's City Centre Church to serve the people of Derby by:
•  providing a hub for proactive communication and support for residents, employers, employees and visitors in the city centre.
•  being a community facility for leisure, training and improved health and well being.
•  offering welcome, support and resources to all sectors within the city - civic, business, commerce,  retail, entertainment - and to all sections of the community - families, children, elderly, students and the unemployed and disadvantaged.
